iTunes Blog Post three

Two lectures that I have listened too are one University of Michigan's engineering lecture and their health studies lecture. So for the engineering lecture I found it very boring. I wasn't really interested in it but I thought I would try it out anyway. The reason I thought I would try it out was because my dad did engineering at Michigan and I wanted to see what he had learnt. I found some stuff cool such as how the engineering world functioned and what kind of jobs the engineers that graduated from the university could get. Another thing I discovered was really how hard the engineering program really was. It had to do with topics I have never even heard before and I discovered that you really need to be smart in all categories to pursue engineering.

The other lecture I looked at was University of Michigan's health studies lecture. This lecture I was pretty interested and excited for because I'm really into health studies and how the body and mind function. Michigan has a pretty famous health studies program there so I knew it would be filled with a lot of cool information. I thought I was already pretty educated in how the body and mind work but I discovered their was a lot more to know. The lecture gave good visuals and gave me a really clear understanding of different topics on the body and the mind. This lecture really got me excited to pursue a career in the health studies field which is definitely an advantage of having these online lectures.

Overall I believe that these iTunes U courses are a great idea to get students excited to pursue different careers in the future.

iTunes Blog Post Four

I believe that Universities and colleges are going on the route on online lessons for many reasons. Some advantages for doing this are well that many people can't afford school so by putting these lectures online gives these people the ability to learn without actually paying. Another advantage may be that having this online course allows people to learn and become interested in what their learning. By getting a taste of what's being taught it might encourage that person to actually go to that school for their University or college experience. By providing this online learning also gives the schools students a different way of experiencing the learning by giving visual examples and a different way of listening to explanations and such.

Having these iTunes u courses also gives the student or person the opportunity to learn what they personally want to learn. For example someone could be going to the University of Michigan for business but also wants to learn how there engineering course is like. Well That student can go to Michigan's online course and do all the learning they want about engineering. This way of learning gives a lot of freedom and that leads to positive learning for whoever wishes to learn.

iTunesU Post 2

I definitely believe that this type of learning should definitely be a lot more common in class rooms all over the world today. The old style learning like a class all sitting perfectly in a row, listening to a teacher speak the whole time. That’s boring and statistics show that back in the day when this learning was the only option about 60% of the students graduated. Now a days with the new style of online learning such as blogs, twitter, facebook and much more, students that are graduating now are about 82%. That shows that this style learning is much more relevant and better for students learning. Students these days are always using their phones, laptops, anything electronically really. Instead of being that boring awful teacher standing at the front of the rom telling their students to put all that away. Why not be the teacher who says no keep it out but please do your homework through your electronics. It is more efficient and it also makes you a more influencing teacher.

Another reason why this type of learning should be included in classrooms today is because one it helps with the environment. Having everything on the computer, there is no paper involved. It’s not only beneficial to the environment it is beneficial to the student and teacher too. This helps the student because the student is now able to access any of their work from anywhere. They can look on their phones, laptops, iPods, pretty much anything. This is beneficial for the teacher because they are not bugged by printing out papers for a whole class and carrying them around with them.
Overall I think this is a very beneficial and efficient way of teaching that should definitely be used in all classrooms all over the world.

itunes unit post 1

I believe that the Khan Academy is a great idea. I personally have never heard of or used the Khan Academy before but I definitely wish I would have. I think the Khan Academy is a good idea because first of all it explains the idea of whatever lesson your learning in way that is very easy to understand. What I mean by this is that it doesn’t seem like this way of teaching is directly by the book, in which some teachers do so in school and it is very hard to understand and really learn. The Khan Academy provides very good and understandable descriptions of what’s being explained along with a visual aid that makes it even easier to understand. Having a visual aid along with explanation helps a lot with some learners because me for example I can understand a lecture to a certain point but sometimes get lost. With a visual aid along with a lecture keeps me on track and also makes me able to really focus in on what’s being said if I can also see what is actually happening.

This also is a good idea because it is explained in a sense where people can really take away good information. By saying this I mean the videos describes the lesson in a way that is right to the point and good information just in a more direct and laid back way than what I mentioned before by the book. There is a couple flaws though... obviously one you cant ask questions (or maybe you can I’m not sure I’ve never used this before), two if visual learning isn’t for you the person watching could get lost and confused. In general though I think the Khan Academy is a really good idea and if I can integrate this into my university studies next year some how I’ll definitely use it.

Shakespeare Blog Post 4

I believe that the 1996 version is much better than the other two mainly because it is more realistic. What I mean by realistic is that even though it is not taking place in the present year it still has that present feeling to it. The characters look more like people now a days, the scenes are filled with much more colour and its overall more lively in a sense. The older versions seem very bland and out of date. So to me it would seem that the 1996 version is more appealing because it is the most recent. It uses the most recent technologies, more famous actors, and just a more well known version of watching a movie. Also having that more well known version would probably help people to understand better because they are able to base whats happening in the movie to their own lives. So that is why I think the 1996 version is more appealing and better than the other two older versions.

Funny Shakespeare picture for you Mr. Chesser......

Shakespeare Blog Post #3

I agree Shakespeare is  a very difficult thing to read, write and mainly understand. A lot of people were mentioning that the old style version of the way they spoke and wrote was hard to get. I definitely agree with that 100%. Some ways that I believe would help me or anyone having to work on Shakespeare plays would be to maybe re-read some of the acts or quotes that were not understood. Another way to get around this problem is that you can actually by the plays with an explanation of each act or thing being said. A third way to work around this ever growing problem that just keeps reappearing is to by first read the play Shakespearean style then re-read it with a present style explaining it and then perhaps re-read not all the play but the main parts you did not get in the Shakespearean style. This way you can really understand it what exactly is happening in your own way and in the eyes of William Shakespeare himself.  So those are some of the struggles I face and agree with other people and those are some ways I discovered to overcome certain problems you may come across while reading the hard to understand yet amazing Shakespearean plays.

Second Shakespearian Blog Post

The wikipedia searches about the main character of the Taming of the Shrew: Petruchio is pretty well said. It is not completely reliable but it will be good for finding some quick facts. The search explains his character by talking about his background, life, goals in the play and the reason why his character is included in the play. Since it is not completely reliable I will have to find other sources to do my most important research.

I believe that having multiple tech skills is very also very important for every student. I think it is important because having a wide variety skills enable you to have success in many different aspects, mainly school work. Before I took this class I had a limited knowledge of tech skills but now I have been exposed to many more. Some tech skills that I had before this class were that I was able to do a proper internet search effectively and efficiently, typing was another skill that I had before this class, I am able to type efficiently and am able to type fast. I have also been exposed to how to properly use social media and security and safety. The final one I have knowledge with is finding apps and software. A few that I do knot have a lot of knowledge in is office suite skills, self learning of tech and where do I go for help, netiquette, hardware basics and troubleshooting, and finally back up data. In this course I hope to learn how really use netiquette because learning how to type professional emails and such for a professional job would be a huge advantage and look good on me having proper etiquette. Another skill I would like to gain is learning how to back up data. I would like to learn this because backing up my school work at university will be crucial. It will allow me to access my work from anywhere at anytime and I know that I will always have it saved. That helps a lot of troubles that you might have if you lose your work and such. I’m excited to learn and gain more knowledge of different tech skills.

Shakespeare Unit: First Blog Post

In order to successfully study, research and discover different things about this play without the help of a partner I will need to form a plan and a list of different tools to aid me in finding out the all the useful information. Some tools that will help enable this could be the web, books about shakespeare, movies, asking questions to people who have had past experiences with the play, reading the actual play itself, and much more. By using all the tools at hand I will be successfully be able to locate key information about the Shakespearean play I have chosen. Some other useful things to help me discover and learn more about my play is maybe go to past or current english teachers and ask for their opinions and comments on the play. Doing this may help me get a better understanding of what exactly I'm dealing with, get a better sense of the play, and most importantly I would be able to plan how I am going to handle reading the play once I know what is going to come from it. There are also sites on the internet that are dedicated to my specific play that I can research, which will give out some good info for me to take in.  Tackling this unit by myself will definitely be a challenge but there is always room for success with the right tools at hand. Once I gather most of my information and I start to understand it better, it will definitely lead me to discovering new and exciting things. Once discovering these things it will only extend my research and understanding of the play further. In all being able to get a better understanding of the play for myself will ensure my success in understanding and being able to produce the best work possible in this Shakespeare unit. It will be a challenge but with the help of all my tools in front of me it should turn out to be a great unit.

PLN Assignment

1. PLN:  informal learning network that consists of the people a learner interacts with and derives knowledge from in a personal learning environment.

2. Elements of a PLN: contacts, information, links to social networks

3. A PLN might give an edge over other classmates because while other students may have to research or might need connections to do a project or paper, you will have direct information and links and contacts right on your PLN.

4. Future employers might like an online portfolio because one its environmentally friendly, also they would be able to access your portfolio at any moment in time. It's a quick and easy way to get your information to the future employer.

5. I do not have an online footprint. If I did I would make it very professional. It would detail my good qualities and work qualities.

(Mr. Chesser I couldn't locate some of the information/ understand what a PLN is all about so I did the best I could.)

First Assignment: Tom Wayman findings and 3 questions

Tom Wayman was born August 13th,1945 in Hawkesbury, Ontario. He studied at UBC, Colorado State University, and the University of California, Irvine. He received an M.F.A degree. Wayman has received many awards such as Canadian Authors Association medal for poetry, the A.J.M Smith Prize, and has been nominated three times for the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize. He taught at the University of Calgary. He writes poetry, short fiction stories, and anthologies. Some poems that he has written are "Waiting for Wayman"(1973), "For and Against the Moon" (1974), "Free Time" (1977), and much much more. Wayman enjoys writing poems a lot. Seems to be his true passion. Wayman writes some funny and weird poems at the same time, very interesting and capturing with his written work.

3 Questions Phase:

Poem 1: Routines  (http://www.library.utoronto.ca/canpoetry/wayman/poem1.htm)

1. For this text it seems to be about a routine day in the life of Tom Wayman. Wayman explains from the moment he arises from his sleep to the moment he falls back to sleep again. He explains how hard it is to go about his day. He talks to his body as if it were another human being. Wayman explains his daily 'struggles' as an average guy waking up, going to work, eating, going home to sleep and repeating his whole seemingly boring routine day.

2. Some feelings that this text evokes are suffering, laziness, and enthusiasm. I find the feeling suffering being shown in this because throughout the whole text all he does is complain and emphasize the struggles and challenges his body goes through during the day. I found laziness because basically this whole text highlights how lazy his body is and finally enthusiasm because although the text highlights and points out his daily struggles for his body, his mind tries to inspire his body to be more productive and successful. His mind  is very enthusiastic to his body.

3.  Wayman accomplished questions one and two by explaining a variety of examples of certain things that affect him throughout his daily routine. He uses very good describing words to capture the reader so that they really can understand what he is going through.

Poem 2: The Detroit State Poems: Marking (http://www.library.utoronto.ca/canpoetry/wayman/poem4.htm)

1. For this text it seems to be about pieces of work that his students write that Wayman has to mark. It is about Wayman's personal feelings he gets as he marks different components of each piece of work. He talks about different emotions he feels. It really seems to be about how he feels for about writing but also about the people who are writing it the pieces of work.

2. The text  emphasizes two main feelings. Those feelings are anger and remorse. Anger is present because he explains about how mad and enraged when he finds simple grammar mistakes or misplaced punctuation. He then puts all his anger and range into the page basically destroying what was written. Though after he feels remorse when his anger and rage end. He explains how he feels bad and has taken away the freed feelings that he wishes his students to write. He feels his remorse most when he sees the reaction of the eyes on his students.

3. Wayman accomplishes questions one and two by sending a strong message in his text that writing is not the only thing in the world, it is just a factor. This message is portrayed by Wayman realizing he has made a mistake by destroying the pieces of work given to him and not realizing he took away the rule he taught himself to his students. That is write your own feelings.

Poem 3: Did I Miss Anything? (http://www.library.utoronto.ca/canpoetry/wayman/poem5.htm)

1. This text is about the question that is always asked by students after they miss a class. 'Did I miss anything?' This text explains two points of view the teachers perspective and the students perspective. It explains how important a class is to the teacher for his students but how unimportant the class is to the students.

2. This text talks about two strong feelings. The first feeling is how the teacher tries to point out that the class means nothing to the student. This is shown by saying that the student missed nothing the class is basically pointless but then the other feeling comes in saying how important the class and that the student missed the most important thing in the world.

3. Wayman accomplishes question one and two by basically sending the message that asking 'did I miss anything?' is a ridiculous  question to ask. Of coarse the student missed something. It really shows that message by over exaggerating both points of view in the text.
